New software adds school data to your new home search

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has strengthened its partnership with hi-tech software firm, Local Logic, to provide school data to potential home buyers searching for properties on CREA’s website, realtor.ca

Local Logic was formed in 2014 by a group of urban planners who saw how technology was transforming, and would further transform, how real estate is bought and sold.

In the spring of 2018, CREA and Local Logic joined forces to add neighbourhood specific lifestyle information to realtor.ca property listings and now searches on the website will inform parents about nearby homes when considering a purchase.

“We’re very excited to continue expanding our relationship with realtor.ca and work with them to develop meaningful products that showcase advances in Canadian real estate technology,” says Vincent-Charles Hodder, CEO of Local Logic.

The information is being rolled out in phases across Canada and is now available in the following markets: Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa-Gatineau, Quebec, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, St Catharines – Niagara, Halifax, Oshawa, Victoria, Windsor, Saskatoon and Regina.

An additional feature allowing parents to search for a property within a particular school’s catchment area will be available later in the fall.

“When searching for a home, having supplementary school catchment areas available will help home buyers make better, more informed decisions when it comes to selecting a home that meets their families’ needs,” says realtor James Mabey. “Consumers look beyond pricing, or the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and expect realtor.ca to have the latest information on a property.”

The service can connect buyers and sellers with a realtor, says Patrick Pichette, vice-president of technology services and member support at CREA.

“We’ve learned that when the consumer interacts with hyper local neighbourhood data, they’re three times more likely to convert into a lead for a realtor,” says Pichette. “Since launch, we’ve seen very strong engagement with the school data, which is five times more popular than any other lifestyle category on realtor.ca.”

To learn more about the new school catchment feature, go to realtor.ca and search in the city of your choice, as above.
